Lynchburg Police Help Spruce Up Home

Lynchburg, VA - Lynchburg's Crime Prevention Unit was on a different mission Tuesday. They were sprucing, trimming and beautifying the landscape around a Lynchburg home on Harrison Street.

They have partnered with Rush Lifetime Homes, a non-profit that builds and renovates homes for those with disabilities, physical, mental and/or intellectual challenges.

    A New Nursing Home Population: The Young

    Young people ages 31 to 64 now make up 14 percent of the nursing home population, an analysis of federal data from the Department of Health and Human Services by NPR's Investigative Unit found. That's up from 10 percent just 10 years ago.

    The data do not show why this age group is entering nursing homes in such higher numbers, but Michelle Fridley's fight to stay out of a nursing home may provide a clue. (more informaiton below from NPR)

    VCEH Report on Permanent Supportive Housing

    The report sets a baseline of the current number of permanent supportive housing units in the Commonwealth. It calls on Virginia to create 6,800 new units of permanent supportive housing and to begin moving towards this long-term goal with a short-term goal of creating 1,000 new units in the next three years.
