Jeff Smith is our Executive Director and is responsible for the overall direction of Rush Homes as well as project development and management, compliance, and fundraising assistance. Jeff’s wide-ranging educational and professional background exemplifies his concern for humanitarian causes, justice, a healthy environment, and healing. Jeff earned his Bachelor’s degree in physics from Emory & Henry College. After spending 11 total years in the wire and cable industry and later the pharmaceutical industry in engineering and management rolls, Jeff earned his MEd in Agency Counseling from Lynchburg College. He found a home in the non-profit service world, serving Central Virginia Community Services, Greater Lynchburg Habitat for Humanity, and the 500 Year Forest Foundation. As of 2017, Jeff has worked to provide affordable housing for 18 years including 12 with Rush Homes and is a National Development Council certified Housing Development Finance Professional. Jeff is from rural southwest Virginia where he grew up on a small farm. He is a member of the 500 Year Forest Foundation Board of Directors, a former board member of the Central Virginia Land Conservancy, and has completed basic training as a Central Virginia Master Naturalist. Jeff loves to travel with his wife Mary, backpack, get out with his dog Annie, cycle and run, and is thinking about getting his fly rod out of mothballs.
